The North Hagerstown High School Orchestra program is a vibrant and dynamic community where young musicians develop their skills, challenge themselves artistically, and experience the joy of performing together. Under the direction of Dr. Jeannine A. Sturm, they are known for their strong commitment to musical excellence, the program offers students the opportunity to grow as instrumentalists through daily rehearsals, diverse repertoire, and a supportive, collaborative environment. Whether students are just beginning their orchestral journey or are preparing for advanced musical studies, the program emphasizes both individual musicianship and the importance of contributing to a unified ensemble sound.
Beyond the classroom, the North Hagerstown High School Orchestra frequently showcases its talents at concerts, festivals, and community events, highlighting the dedication and hard work of its members. Students are encouraged to take part in county and state-level ensembles, competitions, and enrichment activities that deepen their appreciation for orchestral music. With a tradition of excellence and a culture built on teamwork, creativity, and passion, the orchestra program plays an integral role in the school’s artistic identity and leaves a lasting impact on every student who participates.
There are two orchestras available to perform in: The General Orchestra and the Advanced Orchestra. Several students also participate in the IB Music course.
